Electric Performance Art

First and foremost, it must be said that I do not approve of many of the methods that were used to reach our current understanding of electricity, such as the killing of animals to test charges of Leyden Jars. Perhaps the difference between the artistic use of electricity and a scientist's is the separation of humanity.  Even after the initial phase of animal murder ceased, we begin to see a trend of dehumanizing people into machines. For example, the muscle manipulation performance art. The audience controls how the performing artist will move, not unlike a robot. This is, in my eyes, the very definition of dehumanization. The article even concludes by mentioning that electronic performance art doesn't do well when humans are not involved. Perhaps electricity bring up something cruel in all humans, despite all the good things that have been done with electricity.
